As a constituent within your borough, I feel it necessary to bring to your attention my views on the unacceptable  parking situation in operation.

Since the decriminalisation of parking controls, parking controls have been exploited for financial gain by local authorities and private companies. Many documented examples in national and local news papers, as well as television and radio news reports, further highlight this financial transition. In fact, ironically, parking controls are now less effective than ever for enhancing the flow of traffic because vehicles are so frequently clamped, which aside from providing a minor visual deterrent is totally illogical. Taking an overview, it seems fair to point out that revenue generated from parking control should be on a downward trend, as otherwise this means your policies are not working.

Parking fees and fines are excessive and totally disproportionate to the service provided and offences committed. There are numerous accounts of fictitious parking tickets being issued but little to counterbalance such as reports of parking attendants being prosecuted for theft or fraud. The financial and psychological damage caused to the public whilst going about their lawful lives in both a social and business capacity has been grossly underestimated and ignored.

I believe that parking controls should be taken back into government control and run as a service and not for profit. I find the situation that I have described in this letter totally unacceptable and ask you to make my concerns known to the government in order that corrective action can be taken.
