Example of Hypocrisy? |

What's wrong here then? I seem to remember that many years ago Ken Livingstone introduced a law where if you parked any wheel of your vehicle on the pavement (including the kerb) you were committing an offence. He was really concerned that your vehicle was going to block the pavement and make life absolute hell for pedestrians. So that means that if you now try to show some consideration to other road users and emergency service vehicles in a narrow road by putting two wheels of your car up on the kerb by a few inches you will receive a ticket and a fine. |

If you look at this picture of a road in Merton, South London, you will see that a large portion of the pavement is taken by an advertisement sign causing a massive obstruction to pedestrians. This is typical of many pavements across London. I think this proves that the authorities think we are all stupid. The rule on pavement parking has nothing what-so-ever to do with making provision for pedestrians, it is just another way to rip off the motorist. This proves it is all about money. Money, money, money. If Ken Livingstone was really concerned about pedestrians these signs would also be banned. But they bring in MONEY. Street muggers probably approve of these signs because it gives them a good place to hide before they strike. |
