Merton Council have
recently started fitting a number of the new 'vandal proof' Digital Speed
Trap Cameras around their borough. This one is on Church
Road in Mitcham near the junction of Miles Road.
We may ask why the council have
decided to position this camera a few yards from a Zebra Crossing?
It is now widely acknowledged
(even by the police) that when a driver
approaches a speed camera that the major part of the driver's attention
is diverted to looking down at their speedometer - seriously reducing all other road
hazard perception.
I
have a genuine fear that people using this crossing may be harmed as a
direct result of this camera.
