Missing Line

I noticed a car in Sutton, South London, with a penalty fine on the windscreen.  When I first looked I wondered why?

On closer inspection you can just see the end of the yellow line behind the front wheel.  Most of the yellow line has worn away and from the position of the car it would seem that the driver was careful to park beyond what they thought was where the line ended behind the back wheel.

It had been raining which probably did not help.

Walking back past the same place an hour later the car had gone and it is clear how the driver had thought they had parked legally.

There was absolutely no need what so ever to issue a ticket in this instance.  It should concern all decent right minded people that you can receive a parking fine in these circumstances.

The parking attendant who issued the fine cannot be a very sympathetic character.

There are frequent reports in Sutton's local press of the council's over the top and merciless attitude to parking control.
