Obstruction Obsession

If you park your car even an inch out of place anywhere in London you get the impression that the authorities consider you to be a bad person.   You will be accused of the old excuse of 'causing an obstruction' and you will be fined.  The authorities will issue a penalty notice and take your money because you are a nuisance.  You are causing an obstruction and you must be punished.

You would have thought that because the authorities seem to be so obsessed with people causing obstructions that the last thing they would do is cause an obstruction themselves.  This bus shelter  'obstructs' a major portion of a narrow pavement.

Even worse not only does this structure obstruct the pavement, the only way to avoid it is by going around the road side where there is danger from passing vehicles!

The shelter in the picture is typical of bus shelters all across London, if not the country.

This is the same bus shelter viewed from the other side.

This is a busy major road with cars and lorries whizzing past just a few feet from the edge of this bus shelter. Imagine a mother with a double pushchair trying to negotiate around this bus shelter when there is a queue for the bus and the street is busy with shoppers. What about a mother with two or three young children on foot to watch?

No doubt the bus shelter and the people who decided to put it there are all paid for out of the publics taxes in one form or another.

So the bus shelter is ok?  Just remember, if the tyre of your car or motor cycle is one inch over that white line around the parking bay that you will be issued a  fixed penalty fine of £80 -£100  you BAD person.
